( June 2, 2021 ) Mr.Veeris Ammarapala , Governor of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) revealed the progress of the construction of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Phase 3 that has issued a notice to start the first phase (NTP1) to the Gulf MTP LNG Terminal Co., Ltd. to carry out infrastructure construction by specifying the start date of the project period as July 1, 2021.
However, in the beginning of the construction, the private sector in the contract still has concerns about 2 issues, namely 1. the situation of the epidemic of the Covid-19 virus that may affect the project’s public relations meeting plan before the start of construction and 2. the demands of fisheries entrepreneurs who need measures to help before the start of construction work.
The IEAT governor said that the first matter that must be understood urgently is a matter of assistance measures that can be carried out through the Foundation of the Emergency Damage Guarantee Fund and the development of people’s quality. The Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Development Project, Phase 3 that can be driven mechanically and quickly, which on June 4, IEAT executives will meet with the governor of Rayong Province for a meeting to discuss the appointment of the working group.
Once the working group has been established, there will be a meeting to determine the framework, guidelines, plan, analyze and assess those affected and clarify the details before proceeding with the construction.
The second issue is to organize a meeting to publicize the project during the Covid-19 outbreak situation. The IEAT is in the process of coordinating with the Rayong province and local government organizations to find a way to organize a meeting to publicize the project before starting the construction which is expected to be able to operate as planned.
For the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Development Project, Phase 3, Gulf MTP LNG Terminal Company Limited has participated in the investment in infrastructure and port development. To support the loading and unloading of natural gas and liquid raw materials for the petrochemical industry. Located in Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Map Ta Phut Subdistrict, Mueang Rayong District, Rayong Province, covering an area of approximately 1,000 rai (395.369 acre) , the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port is the largest industrial port in Thailand. After the development is completed, it will have the ability to transport natural gas and liquid products in the amount of 16 million tons per year.
At present, there are 12 operators, 9 of which are ad hoc terminal operators and 3 public terminal operators. The terminals are in full use and therefore need to expand the port to support the growth of the industrial sector and the country’s energy security.
